Lily Grenning is swimming Alcatraz to raise funds for East Bay Sea Serpents!
Our daughter, Lily Grenning, is a brave 15-year-old swimmer who happens to have Down Syndrome. She is embarking on a big challenge in order to raise money for East Bay Sea Serpents. On June 9th she will swim from Alcatraz, the historical island prison located in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, to Aquatic Park in San Francisco.
The East Bay Sea Serpents is a non-profit, volunteer-run swim team affiliated with Special Olympics Northern California. They provide fitness, social interaction, and swimming instruction to special needs athletes in the San Francisco East Bay.
Several years ago, Special Olympics of Northern California cut funding for fall swim programs, but the Sea Serpents continue to run a self-funded fall program. The majority of the cost is pool rental time from the school district. Additionally, funds are used for equipment such as swim caps, goggles, flotation devices for our athletes. A small percentage of funds go to administrative costs such as website/email hosting.
Unfortunately, at this time your donation is not tax deductible. East Bay Sea Serpents is not currently registered as a 501(c)3. Tax deductible donations may be made directly to SONC, but they cannot "earmark" the funds for EBSS.
