VOLUNTEER WITH SEA SERPENTS: DIVE INTO A WORLD OF IMPACT
At Sea Serpents, our mission to empower individuals through swimming is fueled by the dedication of our volunteers. As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we welcome enthusiastic student volunteers aged 14 and above, proficient in the four swimming strokes, and driven by compassion. Joining our team is a simple three-step process:
- 1. Complete Sea Serpent Registration: Ensure you are registered for each spring or fall season by visiting the Team Registration page on this site. Your commitment kicks off with this essential step.
- 2. Register separately with SONC to "Be A Coach". As a Sea Serpents volunteer, you must register as a volunteer coach with SONC. This SONC requirement is for those aged 14 and older, and the registration is valid for three years, renewable on the same site. Volunteers that are 13 may attend with a registered parent/guardian. Start that process at www.volunteerforSONC.org
Coach Volunteer Essentials:
- Arrive prepared: Wear your swimsuit and be ready to jump in at each session.
- Timely arrival: Be on deck by 3:45 for every practice session.
- Sign in weekly: The Special Olympics office requires us to maintain an attendance log, so please sign in on deck each week.
- Assist with setup: Help with pulling covers and lane lines before and after practice when needed (approximately 10 minutes).
- Dive into engagement: Your 100% engagement with our special needs athletes is crucial. Be in the water for the full hour, fostering their growth through your enthusiasm and energy.
Commitment and Consistency:
Our athletes thrive on your commitment and consistency. If you pledge to be part of the Sea Serpents program for a season, we ask that you commit to attending 70% of the practices. For the spring session, attendance at the May qualifier meet in is required, ensuring the best experience for our athletes.Typically this is a three to four hour shift.
Join us at Sea Serpents and make a meaningful impact through the power of swimming!
